NWFL to fix Super Six date
The programme was earlier scheduled to hold in Yenagoa, Bayelsa State from October 20 to 26 but was hurriedly called off due to the national teams involvement in various World Cup qualifiers.
The Super Six, the last programme on the NWFL calendar for the 2012/13 season, will see the best six teams in the regular season do battle to determine the winners of the season.
The participating teams include 2013 Federation Cup beaten finalists, Nasarawa Amazons, title holders, Delta Queens, FC Robo, Bayelsa Queens, Pelican Angels and 2013 Federation Cup winners, Rivers Angels.
Chairperson of the Nigeria Women's Football League, Dilichukwu Onyedinma said the body will meet on Thursday to deliberate on the final date for the Super Six among other issues affecting the growth and development of the women's league.
“The NWFL board will meet on Thursday in Abuja to fix date for the Super Six as well as deliberate on the out gone season and come up with agenda for the new season.
“The Super Six competition is long overdue we’ve to quickly get it off our shoulders so that we can forge ahead, at least, come out with definite programme for the new season,” said Onyedinma to supersport.com.
Onyedinma could not confirm whether Bayelsa will get the nod to go ahead and host the competition following stiff opposition from some participating teams.
“The board will decide the date and venue in Thursday's meeting. Bayelsa was pencilled down initially to host the event between then and now there have been feelings and reservations expressed by some teams we’re going to consider everything in coming up with a venue,” the NWFL boss said.
Some participating teams were known to have questioned the neutrality of Yenagoa, Bayelsa State as venue for the Super Six competition when Bayelsa Queens from same state are involved in the Super Six contest.
