Court dismisses suit by Ex-President Jonathan’s cousin to stop EFCC investigation
In an affidavit sworn on his behalf by a lecturer of the Niger Delta State University, Bayelsa State, Faith Robert, it was claimed that Azibaola, who hails from Bayelsa State, is a cousin of and close confidant to the immediate past President Goodluck Jonathan and this is the singular reason for his current travails in the hands of EFCC who wants him to implicate the former President at all cost. The despondent also claimed that “owing to his vast experience, sometimes in 2012, Azibaola was contacted by late General Patrick Azazi to temporarily curb the problems of petroleum, pipeline vandalisation and oil bunkering. Consequently, in September 2014 the sum of $40million was paid into the account of Oneplus Holdings Nigeria limited for the assignment with an agreement that he will be paid 10% of the said sum.”
However, owing to the change of Government in May 2015, a committee set up to review some projects of the last administration instructed his company to refund the $40million immediately, and thereafter he was detained through a warrant for remand obtained at a magistrate court for alleged financial misappropriation on a purely civil transaction.
BREAKING: Gunmen kill seven policemen in Abuja
Our correspondent gathered that the incident caused a panic as motorists and residents ran away in fright as gunshots rent the air. But it could not be immediately ascertained if the attackers went away with the firearms of the dead policemen. The bodies of the slain cops were later evacuated from the scene in a police van. The pictures of the men later surfaced online.
The Commissioner of Police, Sadiq Bello who confirmed the incident, said he was in a briefing and could not provide details of the attack. He stated that the command would soon issue a statement on the incident.
Details later…
Ekiti 2018: Fayemi campaign raises alarm over Ekiti debt figures
The Director of Media and Publicity of the Kayode Fayemi Campaign Organisation, Wole Olujobi, in a statement on Tuesday accused Governor Ayo Fayose of profligacy, saying the governor is deliberately piling up debts to help himself while the state remains under the bondage of suffocating debts.
He regretted that despite huge debts owed by Fayose, there is nothing to show for them except an over-priced 800-metre single-lane flyover that cost Ekiti people N17.5b in official records, though quoted at N6b to Ekiti people to escape public anger.
Buhari commends Nigeria-Kuwait relations
President Buhari, while thanking the outgoing ambassador for promoting good relations between Nigeria and Kuwait, said he hoped that the cordial relations would translate into more active cooperation between the two countries. Alsharrah, who thanked the government and people of Nigeria for maintaining good relations with his country, said there was still room to grow the relations.
The envoy said he found his five-year tour of duty in Nigeria very rewarding and extended his country’s invitation to President Buhari for official visit.
Buhari receives French President, Emmanuel Macron in Abuja
Later today, he will also visit Lagos State where the state government has planned to host him at the New Afrika Shrine founded by Femi Kuti, son of music legend, Fela Kuti – making him the first president to enter the venue. The New Afrika Shrine located at Ikeja Lagos was built after the original Shrine by the musical maverick, Fela was burnt down in 1977. In Lagos, the agenda will be less traditionally diplomatic, with a focus more on the megacity of 20 million people’s artistic and cultural scene.
The French President is expected to officially launch the African Cultural Season which takes place in France in 2020, at an event showcasing music, fashion and theatre. The choice of location — the Shrine concert venue of Afrobeat legend Fela Kuti — has come as a surprise for many Nigerians given its association with the anti-establishment musician. “It’s a pleasant surprise that Macron chose to celebrate the cultural scene in Lagos,” said Steve Ayorinde, Lagos state tourism commissioner. “But it didn’t come as a shock, knowing that France is a very cultural country and knowing that Macron is a young president.”
Meanwhile, the Lagos State Government has announced that there would be traffic diversion and restricted movement from 12 noon to 12 midnight on Tuesday around the Alausa, Afrika Shrine/Agidingbi axis.
Dr. Fayemi meets Buhari ahead of Ekiti governorship election
Fayemi left the Presidential Villa at about 12.30pm without talking to State House correspondents who wanted to ask him the purpose of the visit. The Presidency had also yet to issue a press statement on the meeting as of the time of filing this report. It will be recalled that Fayemi recently resigned his appointment as the Minister of Mines and Steel Development to enable him to contest the governorship election. The Federal Executive Council on June 6 held a valedictory session for him. Buhari had at the session extolled the virtues of Fayemi who he said he reluctantly released to pursue his political ambition.
The President had expressed the hope that the former minister would win the election and use his experience to reposition his state. Buhari had assured Fayemi, that the cabinet members will be in Ekiti for his inauguration as governor. “Goodbye. We will come for the inauguration,” he had told Fayemi as he shook his hand to bid him farewell.

DSS planted hard currency in my house – Justice Ngwuta
*Justice Ofili-Ajumogobia submits self to EFCC in Lagos
*Onu, Amaechi react; say Justice Ngwuta’s allegations baseless
ABUJA —Another Justice of the Supreme Court, whose home was raided by operatives of the Department of State Services, DSS, Justice Sylvester Ngwuta, has opened fresh can of worms, alleging that operatives of DSS, planted hard currency in his house. He also alleged that his ordeal was a result of his refusal at various times to help the All Progressives Congress, APC, pervert justice in governorship election disputes involving Ekiti, Rivers and Ebonyi states.
This came as operatives of Economic and Financial Crimes Commission, EFCC, said, last night, that a Federal High Court judge, Rita Ofili-Ajumogobia gave herself up to the commission, after EFCC claimed she feigned illness and was on admitted in the hospital. She is one of the judges being investigated by the commission, which invitations she had repeatedly turned down.
Justice Ngwuta, in a letter dated October 18, which he forwarded to the Chief Justice of Nigeria, CJN, Justice Mahmud Mohammed and the National Judicial Council, NJC, specifically fingered the Minister of Transport, Mr. Rotimi Amaechi and Minister of Technology, Dr. Ogbonnaya Onu, as those who approached him on behalf of the APC.
In the letter, entitled: ”Invasion Of My House In The Night, Planting Of Huge Sums Of Money In Different Currencies, Purported Recovery Of The Money, Carting Away Of My Documents And Other Valuable Items And My Subsequent Abduction By Masked Operatives Of The DSS Between Friday, October 7 And Saturday, October 8, 2016”, Ngwuta, said Amaechi begged him to facilitate the removal of Governor Ayodele Fayose of Ekiti State.
He further disclosed that shortly after the Supreme Court affirmed the election of Governor Nyesom Wike of Rivers State, Amaechi also called him on phone and said “Oga is not happy.”
According to Nwguta, “I asked him who is the unhappy “Oga” and he answered “Buhari”. I retorted “go and talk to his wife.”
He told the CJN that the Minister of Technology, on the other hand, wanted him to convince the President of the Court of Appeal, Justice Zainab Bulkachuwa, to facilitate the declaration of candidate of the Labour Party as winner of the last governorship election in Ebonyi State.
He said Onu revealed to him that the LP candidate was ready to switch over to the APC once the judgment was in his favour.
Ngwuta’s letter to the NJC, a copy of which was sighted by Vanguard yesterday, read: “Some days before Friday, 7th October, 2016, I started feeling symptoms of malaria attack. Any malaria drug keeps me drowsy and sleeping for days and since I had to go to work I decided to hang on until Friday to take the drug after work.
“I returned from work late Friday afternoon, had a meal and took the medication I got from Dr. Ukah of the Supreme Court Medical Centre. By 7.30 pm I was already in bed having switched off my hand sets. After a little while, my house maid knocked on the door to my bedroom.
“I reluctantly dragged myself to the door. She told me that a group of people wanted to see me. I told her to inform whoever wanted to see me that night that I do not see visitors in the night, that they could come to see me in day time. I went back to sleep. I could not tell how long later that I heard knocks on the door.
“I ignored the knocks but when my house girl continued knocking on the door, I managed to get up and opened the door. She told me that some people said that the President sent them to me. I got out of the room to find that a large number of people some of whom wore face masks and hand gloves were everywhere in the ground floor. I told my house maid to ask the people to meet me in my study next door to the bedroom.
“They rushed into my study; one of them said his name was John. He flashed a card to me and showed me what he said was a search warrant. My vision was blurred as a result of the malaria and the drug I took. They had drawn guns. I was terrified and I thought they had a more sinister mission than a mere search.
“I made to know whether the Chief Justice of Nigeria knew of their mission. One of them contemptuously spat ‘Who is Chief Judge of Nigeria?’ I brought out my handset to call the Chief Registrar of the Supreme Court, they would not let me do so. Rather, they collected my three phones and another phone that I had discarded. I lay down on the seat in the parlour downstairs while they turned everything upside down on the ground floor.
“When they finished downstairs, they demanded that I should show them the rooms on the next floor. Again I had to lie down on the seat in the room, while they turned everything upside down. I had to go to another seat when they wanted to upturn the seat I occupied. One of them saw the sum of forty thousand naira (N40,000.00) and one thousand naira notes in one of the drawers. He was excited and called their lead who saw the money and said ‘this is not the kind of money we came to pick.’ They left the N40,000.00.
“In the next bedroom, I lay on the bed out of sight of the wardrobe from which they brought some boxes and brief cases and travelling bags. All the bags and briefcases and travelling bags except one contained only magazines, papers and some old clothing. Some were empty. Only one small bag was locked with a padlock and this was the only bag that contained money. They directed me to come over and remove the padlock. I retrieved the key from the side pocket of the bag and removed the padlock and returned to my bed. They put the bags together by the toilet door. They called me again and asked me whether the bags were my property and I answered they were my property.
“None of the bags were opened in my presence nor in the presence of my housemaid who was the only person in the house with me at all material times.
“Some of them stayed in the room while I took them to my study. At this time, I became very dizzy and I had to return to lie down on a seat in the parlour and a man with a gun and a face mask stood over me while I dozed. He followed each time I went to the toilet. Another one followed my housemaid each time I asked her for water. There was no way out of the house.
“They were at all doors. Those searching and those outside the house went into the house through the main door, kitchen door and back doors. They went in and out of every room, including the room in which the bags were kept. I dozed intermittently but my house girl was kept sitting on the steps and was able to observe them coming through the kitchen door but she could not see those who came from back doors, took the second steps and went in and out of the rooms on the upper floor.
“After many hours, they came down to the sitting room downstairs and told me they were going to bring down the bags.
“I was speechless when I saw them bringing out huge bundles of different currencies from the bags that had contained only magazine papers and old clothes and some were empty. Some were contained in multi-coloured plastic bags which they tore and discarded. They put the money in different bags and brief cases and then proceeded to count a large amount of N5, N10, N20 and N50 notes, which were the change I returned each time I went to shop over the years. They kept waking me up to ask how I came about the small denomination of naira notes. No one asked me any question about the huge sums of money they put in the bags.
“One of them came to where I was lying down and ordered me to sit up. One of the gun men, who stood a few feet from me, came and stood next to me with his gun drawn. I was ordered to sign a paper which they said contained a list of what they were taking away. Confronted with the life-threatening situation, I made an instant mental decision that it was better for me to comply with their orders and stay alive to tell my story rather than get shot and killed on the pretext that I attacked them or that I tried to escape. I signed the paper and wrote my name as ordered. No one told me what offence I was alleged to have committed. No one told me of any petition or allegation against me.
“The only bag that contained money was the small bag I locked with a padlock which I unlocked when ordered to do so. The bag contained the sum of $25,000, £10 and a brown envelope containing the sum of N710,000 which was a monthly allowance paid to me for September 2016. In the brief case, which I carry to my office daily, I had the sum of N300,000 and some loose change. The above are the only sums of money taken from me along with my phones, papers and other household items.
“I do not know how they came about the huge sums of money I saw for the first time in my parlour on the early hours of Saturday, 8th October, 2016. The various sums of money alleged to have been recovered from me were said to be in the social media in the early hours of Saturday, 8th October, 2016 when the invaders were yet to complete their search.
“They took me away in their vehicle but before they drove away, they ordered my housemaid to get in and lock the house and not to ever come out or let anyone into the house. It was when I saw DSS in the premises into which they drove me that I realized my invaders were agents of a Federal Government Department. Prior to getting into the premises, I thought that the invaders were even armed robbers or kidnappers, more so when I was not questioned by anyone about anything.
“Then I became much more disturbed not only for myself but for the future of this great Nation, Nigeria. I could not convince myself that any agency of the Federal Government, in a democratic setting, could for any undisclosed reason, violate the rights of a Nigerian citizen, a Judicial Officer and Justice of the Supreme Court of Nigeria, for that matter with such impunity. I thought that the democratic government had been overthrown and the Constitution of the Federal Republic of Nigeria 1999 (as amended) abolished or suspended.
“Then the next phase of the ordeal started. I was taken to a room where I met my learned brother, Hon. Justice John Inyang Okoro, JSC. He looked spent and so were other Judicial Officers both serving, sacked and retired. No one told me anything or asked me any question till late in the night when they drove for over one hour to a place they called Villa. They took Justice Okoro and myself into a room that contained only a bed with a discarded, stained old mattress and both of us had to share it for the night. There was no towel, no soap and worst of all there was no toilet paper. We slept in our clothes, went under the tap and used our handkerchiefs in place of towels.
“The next day, Sunday, we were driven back to the office. I was taken to a room where two operatives fired questions at me in quick succession. I answered as much as I could in the circumstances. I pleaded with them to tell me why I was abducted and detained and subjected to endless questioning. I also asked why everyone kept mute over the huge sums of money allegedly recovered in my house but none of the two men would answer my question. We were allowed to go home Sunday night only as a result of the intervention of the Hon. Chief Justice of Nigeria, the Hon. Justice Mahmud Mohammed, GCON. We were ordered to return on Monday and since then, we have been reporting daily to them.
“On Friday last week, I was ordered to report by 10 am. Justice Okoro and I were required to appear before the Judiciary Committee of the Senate. We told our stories to the Senators and rushed from them to meet our interrogators. On one particular occasion, I was taken to, and locked up, in their different rooms. Each room had only a table and a set of chairs and I was kept for about one and half hours in each room. No one was with me in any of the rooms.
Reason for my travails
“My Noble Lord, I am a victim of my own resolve never to violate my sacred oath of office as a Judicial Officer. Politicians and their collaborators have been hunting me on that account. It started in Ebonyi State, where I was falsely accused before a panel set up by NJC in August 2000. It was replicated in 2009 when I was pulled from my Division, Calabar, to preside over a motion filed by Senator Andy Uba, seeking to be a Governor without going through the process of election. In each case, I was exonerated.
“My present plight started sometime between 2013 and 2014. I represented the then Chief Justice of Nigeria in an event organised in the International Conference Centre. Hon. Rotimi Amaechi came in late and sat next to me at the high table. He introduced himself to me and we exchanged contacts. A few weeks after, Fayose’s case was determined in the Court of Appeal. Amaechi called me by 6.45 am. He said he had come to see me but was told I had left for my office. When he said he would return in the evening, I demanded to know what he wanted but he would not tell me. He did not come that evening but came the following morning when I was already prepared to go to work. He begged me to ensure that Fayose’s election was set aside and another election ordered for his friend Fayemi to contest. I told him I would not help him and that even if I am on the panel I have only my one vote.
“After the Rivers State Governorship election was determined by the Court of Appeal, he called to tell me his ears were full and he would like to tell me what he heard. I told him I was out of Abuja at the time. On my return, he came in the evening and even before he sat down, he barked: ‘You have seen Wike.’ I asked him whether that was a question or a statement. Then he made a call and asked me to speak with someone. The man he called said he was a DSS man. We exchanged greetings and I handed the phone to him. Next, he said ‘Oga is not happy.’ I asked him who is the unhappy “Oga” and he answered “Buhari.”. I retorted “go and talk to his wife.” He got very angry, and left, remarking “we shall see” several times.
“Your Lordship may recall one morning when I pleaded not be on the Panel for Rivers Appeal. Your Lordship said I was already on the Panel and asked me to explain why I made the request to be excluded. When I explained what transpired the previous night, Your Lordship told me Amaechi had also attempted to influence other Justices. My Lord, on the day we heard the appeal with your Lordship presiding, we were allowed lunch break at 4.20 pm. The moment I got into my Chambers, he, Amaechi, called. When he told me who was calling, I said to him, “Your Excellency, you want to issue more threats?” He replied: “Have you been threatened before?” I replied “I know a threat when I hear one even if veiled. In any case, I will not talk to you” and I switched off my phone.
“The people who failed in their attempt to destroy me in Ebonyi in 2000 and in Enugu in Andy Uba’s case in the Court of Appeal, Enugu in 2009 are now supplying Amaechi with information to fight me for my negative response to his demands, especially my answer to his statement that “Oga was not happy.” This infuriated him and as he stormed out he said he would deal with the situation.
“The incident I will narrate below may or may not bear on this case. When the Governorship Election appeal from my State, Ebonyi, came to the Court of Appeal, one Mr. Igwenyi, a Senior staff of Federal Judicial Service Commission came to my Chambers and told me that the former Governor of Abia State, Dr. Ogbonnaya Onu had pleaded with him to convince me to see him, Dr. Onu. I asked him to call Dr. Onu; he did and I wanted to know why he wanted to see me. He said it was confidential. I asked when he wanted to see me and he said he would like me to come in the evening. I told Igwenyi that he would have to take me to Dr. Onu in his car and bring me back.
“I had wanted him to listen to what Dr. Onu had to say but when we arrived, Dr Onu put him in a different room. He asked me whether I knew the Hon. President of the Court of Appeal and I told him that His Lordship was my Presiding Justice in the Court of Appeal, Benin Division. He asked of my relationship with the PJA and I said it was cordial. He nodded his head several times in apparent satisfaction.
“He told me that the candidate for the Labour Party was ready to switch over to APC if he could help him win the appeal in the Court of Appeal and that in appreciation of the undertaking to come over to his party, he had obtained the services of three Justices of the Court of Appeal to ensure victory for Labour Party. He said he needed one to convince the PJA to include his three Justices of the Court of Appeal in the five-man panel to hear the appeal. I told him I would not help him and that I could not in good conscience convey such request even to a Customary Court Judge. He was disappointed and asked me whether I knew the husband of the PJA. I told him I did not know the man. I bid him good night and left. Igwenyi joined me in the passage and when he drove me back to my home I told him what Dr. Onu wanted. Igwenyi apologised to me and assured me that he would not have bothered me if he had known what Dr. Onu wanted me to do.
“In addition to the above, I have been subjected to visits to the DSS offices. I was made to stay idle for the whole day, without food or even water. On 17th October, 2016, I went to the DSS office to collect my passports as directed. I was to be there by 10 am but I arrived by 9.30 am and I was assured that I would return to my office in no time. I was kept there till 3.45 pm before I was questioned on the passports till 5.00 pm. After that, one of them took the passports to his boss. He returned an hour later, handed me my passports and told me he had finished with me but that only the man in whose office I was could let me go. I was only allowed to go about 10 pm with a warning to report at 10 am on 18th October 2016. From 9.30 am to 10 pm I was not given water or food.
“I am on my way to the DSS office and who knows if and when I will be allowed to leave the place. My Lord, the facts stated here in can be verified. Attached is an Affidavit deposed by me in the Supreme Court Registry to this effect. Yours faithfully”
Ogbonnaya Onu reacts
Reacting to the allegation, Press Secretary to the Minister of Science and Technology, Mr. Taye Akinyemi, said: “Dr. Ogbonnaya Onu is one politician who has remained credible since advent of democracy in Nigeria.
“When all politicians in the country were decamping to the ruling party, he never did. Even when many advances were made to influence him, he never did.
“In the current dispersion, he is where he is today as a result of the effort he put along with other patriotic Nigerians to bring the ruling APC to power.
‘’In all his political career, he has never been seen to be negative. By his age and status, he has no reason to do that, he could not have connived with anybody to pursue such mission. If he is going to do anything for this country, it is going to be in the national interest. Whoever is saying that is only trying to raise an issue where non exist.
‘’This allegation is nothing but an attempt to truncate democracy. Ogbonnaya Onu can never be part of such a plan. Anybody accusing him of such should look for something else. Ogbonnaya Onu can never be part of a process that will truncate the wheel of democracy.”
Amaechi reacts
In his reaction to the allegation, Transport Minister, Chibuike Rotimi Amaechi, said in a statement issued by his spokesman: ‘’The Hon. Justice Ngwuta’s allegation as it concerns Amaechi is nothing but pure fiction, a dubious diversionary tale concocted to muddle the very serious issues of his arrest and investigation by the Department of State Services, DSS.
“For emphasis, we want to state categorically that Amaechi did not and has never tried to lobby, induce or make the Hon. Justice Ngwuta to influence the outcome of any matter before the Supreme Court or any other court.
“The Hon. Justice Ngwuta’s narrative as it concerns Amaechi is simply not true, an unadulterated fallacy designed to deceive and distract from the real issues of DSS investigation of alleged acts of corruption against him.”
Female judge reports to EFCC
EFCC spokesperson in Lagos, Mr. Samin Amaddin, commenting on Justice Ofili-Ajumogobia said on Wednesday morning the judge told EFCC officials by phone that she was on admission in a hospital in Ikoyi, Lagos and could not honour the agency’s invitation for interrogation in the last two days.
Five other judges, Mohammed Nasir Yunusa, Hyeladzira Ajiya Nganjiwa, Appellate Court Judge, Uwani Abba-Aji, Justice Agbadu James Fishim and Musa Haruna Kurya had in the past two days responded to EFCC invitations.
Some of the judges were accompanied by their lawyers and were reported to be cooperating with EFCC operatives investigating alleged corruption in Nigeria’s judicial system.
EFCC spokesman said Ofili-Ajumogobia, was one of the invited judges expected to show up at the commission on Tuesday but she called on Wednesday to claim she was admitted in the “intensive care unit” of a hospital in Lagos.
He said an attempt by EFCC agents to pay her a “courtesy visit” showed that she had not been to the hospital since October 13, 2016.
According to him, EFCC detectives, however, found that a medical staff of the hospital was trying to insert her name into the records as their patient.
Amaddin explained that when the operatives could not find her in the hospital, they called her on her mobile phone to ask where she was.
He said Ajumogobia restated that she was in the intensive care unit of the hospital, only to cut off the call as soon as she was told by EFCC officials that she was at the hospital and couldn’t find her there, she allegedly switched off her phone.
However, Justice Ofili-Ajumogobia, finally turned herself in to the operatives around 6pm, yesterday.

Zlatan Ibrahimovic lifts Man United as Inter lose again in Europa League
Sport Delight ......With Ezekiel
Manchester United laboured to a 1-0 Europa League victory over Zorya Luhansk at Old Trafford as Zlatan Ibrahimovic headed home in the second half to seal the points for the below-par hosts. United struggled to create clear-cut chances against their well-organised Ukrainian opponents, until Jose Mourinho brought on Wayne Rooney, who within moments was involved in the move that brought the 69th-minute breakthrough. Timothy Fosu-Mensah found space on the right and pulled the ball back towards Rooney, whose miscued effort looped into the air and was headed in by Ibrahimovic from a couple of yards out at the far post.
Fenerbahce saw off Feyenoord 1-0 in the other game in Group A, with Emmanuel Emenike's goal enough to secure the points in Turkey. After 18 minutes, Fenerbahce opened the scoring when Emenike finished off a swift counter-attack with a powerful effort that flew in off the post. Mehmet Topal headed wide as the home side looked to extend their advantage, but Feyenoord's former Liverpool striker Dirk Kuyt threatened an equaliser before alert goalkeeping by the visitors' Brad Jones prevented a second-half own goal and the visitors' Bilal Basacıkoglu saw a low effort saved. Through two games, Fenerbahce top the group on four points, one ahead of Feyenoord and United. Poor defending cost Inter Milan as the Italian giants suffered their second straight Europa League defeat, 3-1 at Sparta Prague. The hosts took the lead after just seven minutes when Felipe Melo's attempt at a diving clearance only pushed the ball into Vaclav Kadlec's path. It got worse for Inter on 25 minutes when the back line was caught napping at a quickly taken free kick, leaving Kadlec plenty of time in the box to double the lead. Rodrigo Palacio pulled a goal back for Inter with 20 minutes to play, but after Andrea Ranocchia was sent off for a second yellow card, Mario Holek headed home from the resulting free kick to seal the win. Also in Group K, Southampton stayed top with a goalless draw at Hapoel Be'er Sheva. Virgil van Dijk put a header from close range over the bar in the fourth minute for the Premier League side, who were fortunate that Maor Melikson's 67th-minute shot rolled just wide of the post. Mario Balotelli was again on the scoresheet before limping off as Nice fell to a 5-2 defeat at Krasnodar. After Fedor Smolov and Joaozinho had put the hosts two goals up, Balotelli scored his fifth goal in four games with a sliding shot from the top of the box. But he was replaced at half-time, and a Joaozinho penalty and late brace from Ari were enough to give the Russian club victory. Schalke are level with Krasnodar on six points atop Group I after cruising to a 3-1 over Salzburg, thanks to strikes from Leon Goretzka and Benedikt Howedes and a Duje Caleta-Car own goal before Jonathan Soriano's consolation for the visitors. Fiorentina took the lead in Group J with a 5-1 home win over 10-man Qarabag. Elvin Yunuszade's red card on the half-hour allowed the Viola to take control with braces from Khouma Babacar and Mauro Zarate, with Nikola Kalinic also on the scoresheet. Also in Group J, PAOK responded after conceding in the first minute to win 2-1 at Slovan Liberec. Nikolai Komlichenko provided the hosts the lead seconds into the game before Stefanos Athanasiadis' 10th-minute penalty, and Stefanos Athanasiadis found the winner with eight minutes to play. Roma rose to the top of Group E with a 4-0 victory over Astra Giurgiu in the Italian capital. Luciano Spalletti's side, now on four points, went in front a quarter-hour into the first half. Roma legend Francesco Totti's pass from a set-piece situation dropped invitingly onto Kevin Strootman's left foot at the far post, leaving the Dutchman to only guide the ball in from point-blank range. The Italians saw their lead double moments before the break, and from another set-piece -- Fazio's header from close closing the half on a positive note for the home side. Roma then added two more after the break through a FabrÃcio own goal and a Mohamed Salah strike in the 54th minute to round out the rout at the Stadio Olimpico. Austria Vienna drew 0-0 with Viktoria Plzen in the group's other match. The Austrians, who entered the night atop the table, couldn't capitalise on their home advantage and now sit level on points with Roma in the group. In Group F, Athletic Bilbao's 1-0 defeat of Rapid Vienna, coupled with Genk's victory, put all four teams even on three points apiece. Benat bagged the winner in the 59th minute for the hosts, hammering home from outside the box after a fine cushioned headers from Raul Garcia to give the Spanish side the point on the night. In the other game, Genk were 3-1 winners at home against Italian side Sassuolo. Nikolaos Karelis nudged the Belgians in front on eight minutes -- the Greece international firing home from just outside the six yards box after a pass from Alex Pozuelo. Leon Baily then gave Genk their second of the night midway through the half, firing home from the centre of the box in the 25th minute. Thomas Buffel added a third for Genk in the 61st before Matteo Politano collected and insurance strike four minutes later. Daniel Wass scored from a stunning 30-yard free kick to cap Celta Vigo's 2-0 win over Panathinaikos after John Guidetti broke the deadlock in the 84th minute in Group G. Ajax won their second straight to top Group G as Kasper Dolberg scored the only goal in a 1-0 home win against Standard Liege. Villarreal still top Group L after earning a 1-1 draw at Steaua Bucuresti, the Spanish side taking the lead early through Rafael Santos Borre before Sulley Muniru equalised after 20 minutes. Marco Schoenbaechler scored to make up for a missed penalty and Dzengis Cavusevic netted the winner 11 minutes from time as FC Zurich defeated Osmanlispor 2-1. Irish side Dundalk continued their surprise start to Group D with a 1-0 win over Maccabi Tel Aviv. Ciaran Kilduff, who scored Dundalk's equaliser at AZ Alkmaar two weeks ago, finished off a fine assist from Daryl Horgan for the only goal in the 72nd minute. Aleksandr Kokorin scored twice as Zenit St. Petersburg made it two wins from two with a 5-0 win over AZ Alkmaar. Kokorin netted in the 26th minute following a fine dummy by striker Giuliano, who got a goal of his own when he lashed home a rebound early in the second half. Kokorin added his second before the hour mark, Domenico Criscito converted a penalty and Oleg Shatov capped the scoring. Despite playing the second half with 10 men, Shakhtar Donetsk stayed perfect through two games in Group H with a 2-0 win at home against Braga. Taras Stepanenko scored five minutes in, and though Fred was sent off for two bookings, Viktor Kovalenko was able to double the hosts' advantage. Also in Group H, first-half goals from Kenneth Saief and Renato Neto allowed Gent to beat Konyaspor 2-0. In Group C, Mainz rallied to win at Qabala 3-2 after allowin the Azerbaijan side to score twice in a five-minute span. Yoshinori Muto had put the Bundesliga side ahead shortly before the break, but Qabala responded with a Ruslan Gurbanov penalty and Sergei Zenjov's strike. But Jhon Cordoba equalised seconds after coming on, before fellow substitute Levin Oztunali scored the winner to give Mainz their first-ever Europa League victory. Also in Group C, Saint-Etienne stole a point in a 1-1 draw at home against Anderlecht. Youri Tielemans's second-half penalty had Anderlecht ahead until stoppage time, when Davy Roef collided with a defender and Nolan Roux capitalised to salvage a draw. APOEL won again in Group B as Pieros Sotiriou's 10th-minute header was enough to win 1-0 at Olympiakos. Astana and Young Boys played to a 0-0 draw in the other game in Group B, the Kazakhstan side coming closest when Djordje Despotovic hit the bar with a spectacular overhead effort.

LAND DISPUTES AT IBADA-AMUKPE COMMUNITY RESOLVED.
By Etatsemi Onoriode
A protracted Land Dispute amongst the people of Ibada Amukpe Community
in Sapele Local Government Area of Delta State has been amicably
resolved by the members of a committee and the Duke in Council Amukpe
District.
The land dispute at Ibada Amukpe community between Hon Paul Umukoro,
for himself and on behalf of Ibada Amukpe community, the plaintiff
Daniel Kokogho, for himself and on behalf of the children of late
Chief Kokogho, the president and exco members of Ovwore Amukpe
community defendants was delivered by the Duke in council, Amukpe
district.
After the close of the case, panel members visited the said land for
inspection along with representative of parties were the following
findings were observed, the whole area covered by the survey plan of
the defendant has signs to show it was an old camp where people dwell
before, there are economic trees (coconut trees, rubber trees) well
for water etc at the place, but both parties laid claim to the place,
there are also relies like broken bottle, broken plates (damage)
shells (old pits) in the place which confirmed the place to be an old
camp, an old site for shrine was also identified, all that went to the
bush stood at various portions they claimed belonged to their late
father’s /grand fathers living just the portion where the old shrine
is located, saying that, that is where late Okotie lived and practiced
his herbal profession and where Kokogho stayed with him.
The panel later carefully considered the evidence of both parties,
vis-a-vis what was seen at the bush and concluded as follows, since
there is evidence to show that people once lived at the place at Oko
(village) it is therefore improper for Ovwore community to approve
such a piece of land that is (40 plots) for an individually/family at
the approval is against the constitution of the Amukpe district which
forbid this.
The panel also resolved that the said deed of grant is therefore null
and void and of no effect, noting also that the land caretakers were
not involved in the granting of the deed.
Members of the panel include Chief P.E. Asagba (Duke) chairman Chief
M. Asagba, member chief John Erhitobor (member) Chief E.M Odebala
member, Mr Godday Okpako member, Mr Peter Smart Amukpe district P.G
and Samuel Ifude also member.
A prominent member of the community Ambassador Kelly Igho Erute
secretary Ibada- Amukpe also advised perpetrators and investors to
stay away from Ibada family land known as Okuokoko which is the
ancestral home of the people of Ibada and that there should be no
trespass of any kind

IGWURUTA-CHOKOCHO ROAD : A PLEDGE FULFILLED
By Simeon Nwakaudu
For years, the people of Etche the food basket of Rivers State were cut off from the rest of the state. They had no motorable road linking their markets and farms. To reach them, motorists had to use alternative routes through the neighbouring Abia State.
As the Rivers Governorship Candidate of the Peoples Democratic Party ( PDP) , Nyesom Ezenwo Wike experienced first the untold hardship Etche suffered trying to access their communities. With his campaign team, he had to use the alternative route via Abia State to access Etche.
Without equivocation, the then Rivers State PDP Governorship Candidate made a solemn pledge to the Etche people that if voted, he will link Etche communities to Port Harcourt, the Rivers State capital through the construction of the Igwuruta-Chokocho road .
The Etche people played their part. They overwhelmingly voted for Nyesom Ezenwo Wike. As Nigeria’s best performing Governor, Nyesom Ezenwo Wike on 19th January, 2016 flagged off the construction of the Igwuruta-Chokocho road to the Heartland of Etche the food basket of Rivers State.
The governor’s action is significant because the Igwuruta-Chokocho road is a Federal Road which was neglected with the immediate past administration in the state refusing to come to the aid of Etche people. At the flag off, Governor Wike assured Etche people that he will give them a quality road that will improve their economy and living standard.
Nigeria's pro-people governor gave priority attention to the road. He was always at the project site monitoring the progress of work and insisting that the Etche people deserved the best. He personally supervised the payment of compensation for owners of houses to pave for sustained construction work.
The Etche people are appreciative that Governor Wike is an Honourable leader who keeps his word. Each time, he visited to inspect the road, they spontaneously turned up to cheer him for keeping his promise.
True to his promise, Governor Nyesom Ezenwo Wike has delivered a superlative and durable road to the Etche people. The Igwuruta-Chokocho road has been constructed as scheduled and in line with approved international specifications.
On Wednesday, September 28, 2016, the Igwuruta-Chokocho road will be commissioned to the glory of God. This road is priceless to the Etche people and a worthy testimony of the commitment of a passionate leader to the welfare of his people.

HOW TO WALK WITH GOD SUCCESSFULLY….
In walking with God:
When we are WEAK, He becomes our STRENGTH.
When we are FOOLISH to the world, He becomes our WISDOM.
When we are POOR, He becomes our everlasting TREASURE.
When we LET GO of our all, we become RECIPIENTS of His unending mercies.
When we LOSE our lives for the Kingdom, we GAIN our lives for all of eternity.
When we put ourselves LAST, God will be there for us FIRST.
When we make ourselves faithful SERVANTS, God Himself will SERVE US (Luke 12:37)
When we SUFFER for His name’s sake, we will REIGN with Him eternally.
As we do all these, our OUTER MAN PERISHES, it is only then that our INNER MAN IS RENEWED AND STRENGTHENED for an even closer walk in the mysterious ways of God. The ONLY way that leads Home.
DARE TO BELIEVE. DARE TO WALK WITH GOD.
Thanks for reading, God bless you.

Gov Okowa's Aide Ossai Ovie Congratulates MTN Project Fame Winner, Okiemute
The emergence of Miss Okiemute Ighorodje as the winner of MTN Project Fame Season 9, has been described by Delta State-born blogger and political aide to Governor Ifeanyi Okowa, Mr Ossai Ovie Success as clear evidence of the leading roles Deltans are playing in different fields of life.
Speaking in Asaba, Mr Ossai said, "Miss Okiemute rendition of Phyno's work on vinyl, ‘Fada Fada' was superlative and held not only the judges spell bound but, the audience was in awe that such could be done."
"With such a voice, that power, no one ever came close and the judges did not find it difficult to identify the winner, 25 years old Okiemute who is from Delta State, a University of Port Harcourt graduate of Linguistic and Communication," Ossai said, adding, "she made us proud at the event and I congratulate her and hope our youths will be inspired to engage in such progressive activities."
He continued, "there is no doubt that Deltans are playing leading roles in different fields, call it music, banking, comedy and others and Okiemute's performance made me to recall that even Big Brother Africa programmes are not also complete without Deltans performing, I am happy that positive things are coming out from our state especially now that Governor Okowa is at helms of affairs in the state.
"
While noting that Okiemute has been empowered with the sum of N5 million, a brand new SUV and a recording deal worth millions of Naira, Mr Ossai, stated, "the greatest joy is that she has inspired a lot of youths to think positive and believe in hard work."
